Relationship Counselling with Open Sky Counselling

“The most important ingredient we put into any relationship is not what we say or what we do, but what we are.”
-Stephen R. Covey

Who would not like their relationships to be more harmonious and fulfilling? We need relationships in order to thrive. Intimate love relationships have always occupied a sacred and hopeful place in our collective heart. We dream of having a special connection, someone to share our hopes, fears, and dreams with, play with and just be ourselves around. Yet all of us at some point feel mystified as to how to make relationships work. We do our best to listen and be heard but we end up feeling stuck.

When Relationship Counselling Can Help... Zoe Eakle, RPC, Open Sky Counselling, Victoria B.C

Sometimes talking to our partner begins to feel like talking to a wall or maybe it seems that we cannot talk about anything without it turning into a fight. We grow tired of circular conversations that go nowhere and may avoid talking about some things entirely because it is just not worth the headache. While some couples fight passionately, others end up merely going through the motions of a life together, co-existing without thriving.

Whatever our pattern, the result is the same: we end up frustrated and disappointed, wondering where things went wrong. When we run out of ways to feel understood, we start to blame each other, ourselves, or our circumstances. Locked in this cycle of guilt and blame nothing new is possible. We end up asking as one famous comic put it…

“If love is the answer could you re-phrase the question?”
-Lily Tomlin

How Relationship Counselling Can Help

Together we will pull the burden of being “the problem” off of everyone in the room and begin to face the actual problem: the dynamic between you that is keeping you stuck. As people move through this process, they often find their relationship not only becomes more functional but also grows significantly in its depth and capacity for joy. Inevitably people discover more about who they are personally as they work towards a more genuine and healthy way of relating. The payoffs are immense, not only for the relationship but for you, your family, and everyone around you.
